Large international fashion chains have settled on European soil, offering the same collections in every EU-member state. These fashion giants often present a fine line of clothing and are a valuable source of employment in Flanders.
Authentic Flemish design however, is still not enough represented in our shopping streets. Therefore the Flemish governement wishes to boost Flemsih fashion-design and the employment it can entail.
Flanders is renowned for the Fashion Department of its Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, of which many graduates achieve international fame. But still, it is a tough patch for our young designers to break ground in the Flemish shopping streets. The Flemish region whishes to consolidate the support of Flemsih fashion designers, manufacturers and sales people and one way to do this is getting actively involved in the creation of a fashion temple in Flanders, housing a fashion museum, school and institute.
Through her financial participation in the renovation of the ModeNatie building, the Flemish region wants to see to it that projects supporting young designers will continue to receive Flanders’support and attention
